Kozaburo Toma (藤間 幸三郎 Touma Kouzaburou) is a criminally asymptomatic individual and the criminal force behind the Specimen Case. He is eventually deemed a member of the Sibyl System by Joshu Kasei.
Appearance
Toma is a male of average height and build in his 30's. He has brown eyes, short brown hair and a beauty mark just below his left eye. As an instructor at Oso Academy, he is typically seen wearing a white dress shirt, black vest, dark pants and a red tie.
Personal Background
- While pregnant, Toma's mother is separated from his father and her hue grows cloudy. She flees to Ogishima, one of the largest deserted areas in Japan, and gives birth to Toma and his twin sister. She only ever calls them Prince and Princess and their home is called their castle. However, their castle is also their prison, as she never lets them outside. To clear her hue, Prince/Toma's mother resorts to substance abuse to the point that she falls asleep one day and never wakes up. It may be speculated that she suffered from Eustress Deficiency.
- Happy about their new-found freedom, Princess goes into the world while Prince/Toma stays behind to guard the castle. As Princess grows up, the things she brings home grow ever more expensive. Prince/Toma eventually learns that Princess is a prostitute who kills her clients and steals their possessions.
- When the twins are fourteen, Princess learns that a charity organization for the homeless has come to Ogishima and she fears being separated from her brother. She runs home and tells Prince/Toma everything, convincing him that they must commit suicide in order to remain together forever. Prince/Toma disagrees and chokes her to death, then stuffs her in a freezer so he can still talk to her every day.
- Abele Kirino is the head of the organization that "rescues" Prince/Toma when his daughter, Toko Kirino, is five or six years old. She reminds Prince/Toma of Princess so much that he asks her if she will be his next Princess.
- Prince/Toma is praised him for maintaining a clear hue despite the fact that his mother's corpse still lay on the bed. They fail, however, to find Princess. Prince/Toma lies about his name and his circumstances, his diagnosis being listed as amnesia.
- Thereafter, he enters Toma Academy and takes the name of Kozaburo Toma.
- In 2109, he becomes a social studies teacher in Oso Academy's high school division where he becomes acquainted with Shogo Makishima.[1]
- When a politician threatens to uncover Princess's body, Prince/Toma decides to display her corpse in public, along with the murdered corpse of the politician who might have exposed him as the murderer. Using plastination upon a mutilated body, the politician becomes the first victim of the Specimen Case. Princess is the second.
- At a school anniversary party, Prince/Toma confronts Abele Kirino, killing him by stabbing a pen into his eye and letting him bleed out. He does so because he believes the man to be a "wicked sorcerer" who wants to separate him from Princess. He becomes the third victim.
- Toko Karino finds her dead father and is seen by Prince/Toma who remembers her as the little girl he once asked to be his new Princess.
- The CID arrives to investigate and it is Enforcer Mitsuru Sasayama who saves Toko, then beats Prince/Toma to a bloody pulp. During the fight, Prince/Toma stabs his pen into Sasayama's lung. An explosion occurs giving Prince/Toma a chance to escape, but he is stopped by Sasayama's omen that if he leaves, he will be forever cursed and never again see his beloved Princess.
- Sasayama eventually finds himself captured and dissected alive by Shogo Makishima, who tortures Sasayama hoping to gain information about the Public Safety Bureau. Sasayama's plastinated body is found and Prince/Toma is arrested. He is never convicted, however, because Joshu Kasei absorbs him into the Sibyl System, a decision Prince/Toma embraces rather than die.
